a gift for each day ...

1. Life isn't fair, but it's still good.
2. When in doubt, just take the next small step.
3. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone.

4. Your job won't take care of you when you are sick. Your friends and parents will. Stay in touch...
5. Pay off your credit cards every month.
6. You don't have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.

7. Cry with someone. It's more healing than crying alone.
8. It's OK to get angry with God. He can take it.
9. Save for retirement starting with your first paycheck.

10. When it comes to chocolate, resistance is futile.
11. Make peace with your past so it won't screw up the present.
12. It's OK to let your children see you cry.

13. Don't compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about.
14. If a relationship has to be a secret, you shouldn't be in it.
15. Everything can change in the blink of an eye. But don't worry; God never blinks.

16. Take a deep breath. It calms the mind.
17. Get rid of anything that isn't useful, beautiful or joyful.
18. Whatever doesn't kill you really does make you stronger.

19. It's never too late to have a happy childhood. But the second one is up to you and no one else.
20. When it comes to going after what you love in life, don't take no for an answer.
21. Burn the candles, use the nice sheets, wear the fancy lingerie.Don't save it for a special occasion. Today is special.

22. Over prepare, then go with the flow.
23. Be eccentric now. Don't wait for old age to wear purple.
24. The most important sex organ is the brain.

25 No one is in charge of your happiness but you.
26. Frame every so-called disaster with these words 'In five years, will this matter?'
27 Always choose life.

28. Forgive everyone everything.
29. What other people think of you is none of your business.
30. Time heals almost everything. Give time time.

31. However good or bad a situation is, it will change.
32. Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does.
33. Believe in miracles.

34. God loves you because of who God is, not because of anything you did or didn't do.
35. Don't audit life. Show up and make the most of it now.
36. Growing old beats the alternative -- dying young.

37. Your children get only one childhood.
38. All that truly matters in the end is that you loved.
39. Get outside every day. Miracles are waiting everywhere.

40. If we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else's, we'd grab ours back.
41. Envy is a waste of time... You already have all you need.
42. The best is yet to come...

43. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.
44. Yield.
45. Life isn't tied with a bow, but it's still a gift.

January 3, 2010 ... a day of rest ... sort of

Today was a very good day ... church this morning and then came home and prepared lunch. While Martin was conducting a nursing home service the boys and I started putting Christmas items away. Now the house feels bare and I miss those things that made it feel more festive, especially the tree. Yet, likely behind the 'missing-ness' is a wish that there had been more time spent with family and friends; after all, for me, preparing the house for Christmas is a symbol that this surely will take place! This little time of reflection has provided a timely reminder to make space for others throughout 2010, including more time for that which brings me special joy ... visiting with family and friends.

January 2, 2010 ... started off first with coffee and then a 12.6 km run

Oh my ... had a difficult time getting myself out of bed this morning. The alarm went off at 6:20, but, the snooze button was pushed several times. I have a nice down duvet with a white duvet cover on my bed and lots of white pillows ... very warm and comfy, especially when it is still dark outside. I eventually got up, put on the tree lights, the fireplace and poured a coffee. 'Running' late, by the time I got out the door I had to drive to the end of the block to meet my run buddies, Stephanie and Penny.

We headed out on our run, shortly after 8 a.m. and returned somewhere around 9:45. I tried to copy and paste the route, but, haven't figured out how to do that yet and so if you click (or perhaps cut/paste)on this link, I think it will take you to the route that we ran: http://www.runningahead.com/maps/6a15b6d59a164563aa7e57288252ca20

It ended up being a great run, however, in the beginning I was not impressed with how my stomach was feeling. It was a good reminder of my New Year's Resolution to get back to the 'straight and narrow' with respect to my foods. I figure if I made the resolution before midnight and had stopped eating junk food by then that it would still count as a resolution that began on January 1st! LOL

Anyway here goes ... back to no flour and no sugar! There, I put it out there and so let's hope that it helps with the resolve. I have given way too many brain cells over, in my lifetime, to stressing about food cravings and weight issues. Truly 'need' to be done with all that. God doesn't want me living that way and neither do I. So together this thing will once again be turned around! Here's to 2010and a year filled with wonderful holistic health!

Post Script: Martin completed his second training walk this afternoon, with Tobias and Austin when they walked downtown to Chuffin Cafe to meet Joel after he was finished work.

JANUARY 1, 2010 ... the beginning!

Well folks, today was the first day of Martin's and my training for our five week, 800 km walk (20 - 30 km/day)this coming May/June, which will take us from the base of the Pyrenees Mtns in France and across northern Spain on a route known as the 'Way of St. James' ...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Camino_de_santiago . .. there are many other online sites as well which describe the pilgrimage that has been going on for over a 1000 years. After reading 'the story' behind it, it seems likely that this pilgrimage is founded more on myth than fact; that being said, experiencing it will be a very real and truly holistic experience!

The first day of this new year began with a morning, turning into mid-afternoon, spent in pjs in front of Christmas tree, beside the fireplace, searching the net for accommodation in Spain, for a week at the end of our Camino in June. All the while looking out the living room window at gray wet skies turning ever so briefly into slightly sunny ones.

Eventually donning outdoor apparel we headed to the door - five of us. Martin, me, Joel, Tobias and even the dog 'Austin.' Austin, literally bouncing with glee, was by far the most eager to 'get the show on the road!' Yet, despite our becoming absolutely soaked we returned, just over an hour later, having had a very good start for our Camino, and the promise of many more such walks yet to come!
